MO-SD-15 represents the “golden spine” of the St. Louis region, encompassing 186,000 people, 147,000 of whom are registered voters. It is the highest-educated senate district in the state, and its income levels rank it among the most affluent; household income is double the state average.
MO-SD-15 is endowed with excellent public school districts (Parkway, Rockwood and Valley Park) that routinely over-perform state standards by wide margins.
School districts in MO-SD-15 are particularly diverse, with more than 100 languages spoken in the homes of students. It is also a rich opportunity for a blue “flip” in the 2024 election. While SD-15 has leaned red in recent years, it is migrating back to blue. The Democrat performance in presidential races improved by 13% from 2012 to 2020.
More to the point, while Trump carried the state by 15% in 2020, Biden earned 48.3 percent of the vote that year in the District, and Trudy Busch Valentine earned 49.11% of the vote in her bid to defeat Eric Schmitt in the 2022 U.S. Senate race.
The SD-15 senate seat will be vacated by termed-out Andrew Koenig-R. (Three Republicans will be battling it out in the Aug. 6 primary. Joe is the lone Democrat thus far.) A large turnout is expected with the oval office on the ballot, as will be an IP to end the strict ban on abortion in this state.
